Lost In All Of This Nonsense, But Congratulations Are In Order

West Virginia University football achieved greatness in at least one forum outside the Fiesta Bowl in 2007. With all the confusion and mayhem, it's gone largely unnoticed that WVU won the Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy this season. The background of the award can be found here, and it's WVU's first Eastern Football championship since 1993.
Once upon a time, this would have been an ultimate goal. Many classic and hated rivals are in the running, including Penn State and Boston College. Since the growth of conference football in the Eastern United State has taken over, the Lambert has fallen behind the scenes a bit. Outside of a national championship, this used to be the most coveted trophy in WVU football.
Considering the number of fine seasons WVU has had over the last several years, it is kind of surprising that we haven't won this thing since 1993. That just gives us one more idea of how special an accomplishment this is, and how difficult it is to achieve. So even though I'm a bit late, I would like to congratulate the Mountaineers. We are truly the beast of the east.

It should also be noted that WVU is currently ranked 7th in the nation for the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup at the conclusion of the fall sports season. Basically, this is the all-sports championship for the NCAA, and is a great honor. In layman's terms, WVU athletics as a whole are ranked 7th in the country right now. That's not too shabby for an athletic department that is as wretched as ours supposedly is. More information can be found on WVU's Scout.com website, and the here is your link.

WHAT IN GOD'S NAME ARE YOU THINKING TRYING TO LEAVE HAWAII?!?!?! I know your facilities suck, your budget sucks, and you get zero credibility for curbstomping nobodies all year because no one will voluntarily play you. BUT YOU ARE PAID PRETTY DAMN WELL AND YOU GET TO LIVE IN HAWAII!!!!!!

Sometimes I wonder about people. But then again, if you were going to pay me $2 million, I'd do pretty much anything. Yes, anything.

Unless, of course, I was coaching the West Virginia University Mountaineers. In that case, nothing, no nothing, could get me to leave my beloved Mountaineers.

Boise State v Hawaii

It looks like Hawaii is going to pull this one off. Is it just me or do their fans look like the biggest bunch of dangerously crazed idiots west of Morgantown. I mean it. I think I would be terrified to be a visiting fan there. Gadzooks are they rowdy. Despite the picture above, they do seem to be much more dangerous in medium sized to relatively large packs, such as those found at the actual stadium. Also, it would appear they love to throw an unending stream of garbage on to the goddam football field. You'd think people that live in paradise would care a bit more about the environment.

Turkey Day Football

This is the coolest alteration of a field logo I've seen. Awesome stuff. It's also quite nice that this game is going well for WVU. If ASU does lose, it will get one more team off our back. Had ASU won out, they could have an argument as a one loss team. It looks as if that shall not be a worry. Excellent.

BOOM MOTHERFUCKER!!

And then it all comes down, and we're right back in the hunt. Thank you Arizona, thank you. Let's get it done on Saturday, Mountaineers. Since two of the three Big 12 teams in front of us will have to lose, we're actually sitting at #4, not #6. Now that Oregon goes down, we're #3 in the BCS. There is no more time for excuses or a lack of intensity. It's fucking showtime. Let's do this.

Oregon In Trouble

This game just got interesting. I pointed out earlier that Arizona can throw and Oregon can't stop it. Now, though, Dixon is out for the game. That awesome Duck offense just got dropped to average. I still wish we called plays like they do. My God they are beautiful and frustrating to watch when Dixon is in there. I get upset because that's what WVU should look like.

Holy crap. I felt stupid for thinking this might be a tough game for Oregon, but look at what we have. This is insane.

Oregon Ducks v Arizona Wildcats

Vs

On the surface, this game looks like it should be blowout. Oregon is 8-1 and ranked #2. Arizona is 4-6 and frankly, pretty crappy. That being said, keep your eyes on an interesting stat. Oregon's pass defense is ranked #105. Meanwhile, the Arizona passing offense is ranked #9. Could it be enough to keep this game close? Possibly. Could it be enough to cause an upset? Let's hope so. I still feel like this game will be a rollover for the Ducks, but they did lose last year to these guys. You never know this season.

And tonight is no exception on the insanity of 2007's version of college football.

Friday Night Pillowfight: Nevada v New Mexico State

vs.

You know what? I'm going to drink some rum and liveblog this damn thing. YEEHA!! Yes, this is my life...

UPDATE: On second thought, there is no one at this game. Not a soul. If the home crowd isn't bothering to watch it, why should I? Well, because I have nothing else to do. But I'm going to take a stand and refrain from wasting my time blogging about it. For now. Yum, rum.

DOUBLE UPDATE: This has been an unbelievable game since halftime. This is why I love college football so much. Absolutely brilliant offensive effort by both teams in the 2nd half. I feel bad for people not watching this. OMFG A MISSED EXTRA POINT!! I'm calling it now, NMSU comes back to win on a field goal now that the deficit is only 2. Wow.

Well, shit. The Nevada kicker will now survive the night, and the New Mexico State kid will be the goat. Either way, this was a fantastic game. I know it meant nothing, and no one was there, but it was a hell of a game. This is just one more reason we all love college football. I really feel for that NMSU kicker though. Ugh.
