Louisville Coaching Saga

It's been reported for several days now, from several quasi-reputable sources, that Steve Kragthorpe has indeed started looking for a job. How prophetic of Mr. John Radcliff. It would appear that the Kragthorpe is going to take the SMU job and leave UL after only one year. At the very least, he is seriously considering it.

Now, I know that Kragthorpe has F'ed up their season royally. He's suspended countless players, had no communication with anybody about anything, and lost way too many games given the talent level there. I am 100% certain that I would be furious if we were in the same situation.

But while I understand that Cards fans will rejoice by the thousands, what does this mean for their program's immediate and long-term future? It certainly goes a long way towards making that a less desirable job, I would think, and might even drive Tom Jurich (their outstanding AD) out the door. After all, he made the hire, and the fans haven't supported it, even after all Jurich has done there. I mean, he only got them into the Big East and hired Petrino and Pitino for the love of God. Don't you think they might owe him some trust? And what coach wants to take a position where he literally loses his fanbase after 5 games? He's been treated like garbage by the fans there, and they would likely say he has returned the favor. It's quite ugly if you aren't aware.

We'll have to wait and see what happens here, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Kragthorpe is out of there in 2-3 weeks, and UL is searching for a coach again.

For more information, I direct you to the UL Rivals and Scout boards, Card Chronicle, and ESPN. The story originally broke on Football Rumor Mill, and I've been monitoring it for several days on several sites. It's pretty damn intriguing, and could mean a lot one way or the other for the Big East.
